Alphys was tangentially aware of Fitz for a while, seeing as he was Jane's friend and also did a lot of his work in the Wonderland lab. Of course, in an incredibly sad series of events, neither of them actually knew how to speak to one another, because these are Scientists and they're bad at Feelings. But Fitz reached out to her at a point where she didn't know how to ask for help, with something calm and something to look forward to- exactly what she needed in the moment, and still thinks back on when she finds herself feeling like no one cares about her.
Even though they haven't talked much, Alphys wants to discuss more of her work with him- and compare more theories on science and magic (if he'd just be more willing to discuss magic's part in science period). But it's a small caveat- and Fitz can still be counted on for some casual scientific talk when she needs to get her mind away from a problem.
