[ It works for him, since it's a bit of a sciencey question he wishes to ask anyway. It doesn't take him long, if at all to get there. And of course he doesn't bother to knock because, why would he? He simply lets himself in and looks around--ah, he's never been here before so instead of looking around for any sign of gold scales, he obviously needs to ~~lurk~~ look around. It might not be the kind of laboratory he's used to (this one is ridiculously small), but it still brings memories, the smells, the little details.

When Alphys finds him, and she might he shall be poking around that super computer. What does this button do? ]

[So she heads out, scurries over to the Lab as fast as possible, and pushes open the door to find him already inside. She waves a bit as she enters.]

Hey, uh-- h-how're you doing?

[ If he had known she wasn't there! ... Well, he assumed she was, why wouldn't a scientist be at the lab all the time anyway?

When she gets there he instinctively gets away form the computer. He's not supposed to touch be touching stuff. ]

... I wasn't doing anything.

[ And that's not what she asked. ]

[Shadow, scientists have lives outside of their workplace. Teachers don't live in their classrooms. But she smiles, suppressing a giggle at his response.]

It's okay, you can uh, l-look around if you want. Though Marian won't be happy if her side is disturbed.

[It's like, so much easier to see her side, because Alphys' side is covered in scrap metal and junk and Marian's actually looks like a workspace.]

[ Of course they doooo, it's what he's used to!

Damn, he feels a little silly now, especially when she giggles to which he responds with a little hmph and a quick movement of his ears as he looks a tad sheepish for about a nanosecond. ]

[ To say the least, but hey, let's be forward for once. As far as he knows, she knows nothing about him so... ]

[ They allow a normal, controllable flow of power, without them, terrible floods happen! Basically. ]

[She clenches her hands together as she listens, what she tends to do when she's thinking, the gears turning as she presses the palm into the back of another. A... device, of some kind. A project, with a foreign magic. There's a lot to think about.]

Can I... s-see the other one?

[She reaches forward to gently touch it, trying to get a feel- quite literally- for the design.]

[ Excellent question. Shadow seems to doubt for a moment, eyes scrutinizing her thoroughly. He takes the ring off, it shines in some magical way as he removes it, preserving its shape at all times and handles it to her, almost immediately, he takes several steps back away from her. ]

[ The reason is not instantly obvious, but a second or two later, a very bright flow of amber energy starts emanating from him, threads of light swirling around him. She can or not notice but he's making an extraordinary effort to keep it toned down, there is certainly some strain in his features and both his hands are curled tight into fists. ]

[She holds it carefully, intending on asking to keep it to take notes until the reason he can't becomes more apparent. She lets out a small squeak, quickly examining the inside for exposed wiring or anything to explain how it does what it does before pressing it back towards him.]

Okay, uh, p-put it back on, it's okay, I can look at it while it's on!!!!

[Please don't explode Shadow oh gosh you could've just said it was that dire a circumstance.]

[ Oh... WELL SHE WANTED TO KNOW! Or maybe he wanted to show off, whatever.

He takes it back, quickly, and wears it back. All the energy swirling around dissipates. Oh, that feels good. ]

He still offers his wrist for her to see. ]

[Listen, Shadow, everything with Alphys is either fine or it's Panic. And like, panic is easily 75% of all things.]

[She continues to examine the bracelet, but she watches him for his answer, hoping she didn't accidentally cause him any harm.]

Do you, uh, know how these work? Like if it's magic, or... what kind of force it is suppressing?

I... do not know, my apologies. I suppose there is some magic to it. Chaos Energy is... complicated.

Okay, so, it's... okay!!

[She takes a breath, trying to steady herself properly into thought and not just internal muffled screaming.]

So, in that case, uh... I t-think the first step here is figuring out how to identify the wavelength of your power, like, the f-frequency it resonates with to affect the world, and then figuring out a limiter that would work against that, and building it. If that, uh, makes... any sense at all outside of my own mind.
