[Alphys shrieks a little bit more at the phone, but since Lup isn't picking up, she's just stuck with it. When the other woman arrives, Alphys can be found downstairs in her room, her blanket tied around her neck like a cape so she can have something pressing on her head that she doesn't have to keep holding. She's still typing away on her phone to someone, or maybe just freaking out randomly. There's a lot happening.

If Lup floats in, she's liable not to notice, because she's mostly waiting to hear the door opening, or a knock.]

[Sorry, Alphys, but it's Lup's love for you that means she has to scare you senseless sometimes. Only because she wants to keep you safe.

The lich floats right in front of where the other woman is seated, moving to hover in the air next to her. Without so much as a hello or a polite mention of her arrival, a skeletal hand plops down on top of Alphys' head.] You're still lookin' pretty whole so I guess no one has tried to bust in yet, huh?

[Honestly, it's not even the skeleton part that's getting her. Alphys' best friend is a skeleton. And hell, her other best friend is a ghost. The problem here is both of those people had the courtesy to knock. So something goes from zero to touching her and she shrieks, jumping off the the bed and limbs akimbo before she ends up on the floor in a tangle of blanket and body. It's not too long before at least her head resurfaces over the bed, looking at Lup with an expression that just says why.]

Well-- no, n-not until you! If you knew I was waiting to be attacked, why didn't you say something before coming in??

Alphys screams and Lup just pulls away to rest her bony hands against the hips she no longer has, tilting her head in a 'really, Alphys?' sort of gesture.]

Well, I'm not going to hurt you. [duh] Chill out, babe. Just here to help keep you safe.

W-Well-- you-- I haven't seen you like this before!!

[She shimmies back onto the bed, pulling herself up to sit cross-legged.]

Wait, are you guarding me??

[The lich throws up her hands in surrender, palms facing Alphys.]

Alright, alright. I'll be the first to admit I may have made a slight mistake, but it's already behind us. [thanks for being so understanding, babe]

And, duh. No one's gonna even so much as look your way while I'm around.

[Lup she is 90% anxiety given form, she is an anxiety golem, don't do this.]

Well, uh, I mean-- I guess! I just, you... are you gonna be okay? I mean, you have stuff I'm sure you have to do, and-- uh. Stuff.

[Truthfully, she so desperately wants Lup to stay, but... y'know. Danger. She's danger. Lup has enough problems without her around.]

Nope! [And she may not really be able to crawl into bed and chill with Alphys, but the lich floats over the other woman's bed, resting a chin in her bony palm.]

Cleared out my whole schedule to come stay with you, sis. My family is stickin' together so they'll be fine without me. [Taako may be on the list of targets, but the idea of anyone trying to take out her brother is laughable. Even alone, he's completely capable of blasting anyone in this place. But backed up with Merle and Mags? Yeah, no one in their house is getting touched.]

Which means you're so stuck with me.

[She blushes a bit, ducking her head. Cleared out her schedule just to see her. That's... such high praise. That anyone thinks highly enough of her to make time for her in their lives.]

I mean, I don't-- I wouldn't want to, uhm, g-get rid of you or anything, it's uhm... yeah.

[Gosh, she needs to move away from this topic.]

So, uh, are you a ghost now? I mean, oh gosh, that was p-probably super insensitive-- it's not like I don't support you being a ghost! It's just different!! Some of my best friends were ghosts!

[Fair. Lup's staying and that's final. No reason to drag things out more than that.]

Yep. [Lup pops that 'p', her face hidden beneath her hood but her voice sounds like she's grinning.] It's chill, babe. Don't sweat it. Can't promise this is gonna be my permanent look, but you've got another ghostie pal to add to your friend's list for now.

Well none of them are really ghostly right now? Hadriel d-did something and made them human. I don't really know why.

[And the other, uh, we're not gonna talk about that thanks.]

Is it like, uhm... is it weird? I've always thought being incorporeal would be really disorienting.

[Oh huh. That's interesting. Why'd the door let her through all ghostie if it was rejecting other ghosts? Talk about weird.]

It's pretty choice. [It's all that Lup remembers at this point. It's been so long since she's been corporeal, that she can't quite compare the two.] Love the whole aesthetic, though it'd kill to wear some of my old clothes. I think I could make 'em work on this bony bod.

[Maybe not the most serious of answers, but Alphys is probably used to that from Lup by now.]

I guess that m-makes sense. Though uhm, the ghosts I knew could, uh, selectively touch things? I guess that's not really the case.

[She's getting better at adjusting to this whole thing. Or maybe she's just calming down a bit when she gets to talk geeky science stuff.]

Could you use magic to have, uhm, ghost accessories? Or is that, uhm, m-magic cheating?

[Count Lup jealous. She'd give just about anything to actually be able to reach out and touch someone right about now. It's been ages.]

Guess I could throw up a good ol' illusion and go nuts. [It could be pretty useful in scaring folks, which Lup's loving as of late.] We'll give it a test run later when I'm not on bodyguard duty.

[For now, she's conserving her spell slots, just in case some idiot tries to come and off Alphys in the middle of the day. Lup's ready for 'em.]

[See, now her mind's working on bigger time- Lup isn't the first of her friends that's had an corporeality problem.]

Could you... posses something? I mean, if we're d-dealing with this on the long term, maybe I could make you a robot?? I mean not, permanently I guess, just... if you wanted! Or. Yeah.

[Lup hasn't quite reached that level of desperation yet. Being trapped in a body that's more magic than person isn't exactly preferable to just having her own damn body back, but on the other hand, Lup would rather keep this lack of a body than to ever be in a body that wasn't hers. The thought doesn't sit too well with her.

She is just not about that life.]

I've never hopped into something that wasn't my own body, but I guess it's probs possible. But, uh, I'm pretty good. No robots needed, thanks. [It's sweet of Alphys, and definitely a show of her talents, but Lup is just fine as is.] You throw a lot of robots together here? What even goes into one?

[She shrinks back just a bit, but not much. It's just not Lup's thing, that's-- fine. There were plenty of ghosts that didn't want bodies. Or well, maybe just Napstablook. But it's just preference.

At least she has the rest of Lup's question to distract her.]

Well, uh, n-not here really-- but I mean, it's the same sort of principle? Being underground with limited supplies means I had to scavenge a lot of materials. We had some stuff dug out of the mountain I got to use for r-royal scientist stuff, but I did my whole masters and PHD with just stuff I, uhm, f-found in the trash.

[It's all preference, Alphys. Try not to be too worried about it.]

An actual trash PhD? [She teases, but come on, that's pretty freaking impressive. It shows how crafty and resourceful the other woman was, traits that Lup respects immensely after a lifetime of living with so little.] So, what you're saying is that you could totally throw one together here if we dug through enough garbage here? That's pretty cool.

Hadriel doesn't sound all that different from where you're from.

[She blushes a little at the mention of a trash PhD, cuz like... yeah, I mean, she's right. But she also knows Lup is teasing. It reminds her of Mettaton, back home, when he had his confidence. She tends to attract people like that, it seems like.]

I mean, uh, m-maybe! I've been making repairs to Mettaton, but repairs are a lot easier than.... an entire robot. And I mean, it took a long time, so...

[She fades out at the other woman's last comment, though.]

Aside from the Gods, it's... n-not, really. There's just less monsters here. I didn't interact with people much anyway, but it still feels... lonelier, I guess, without them.

[There's a lot that Alphys is giving her to go off of, but Lup's mouthless face curves downwards into a frown beneath her hood at that last bit, worry settling against her chest.

Alphys is a dear friend, sure, but since her arrival back into Hadriel, Lup's attention has been a little hyper-focused on her twin and their reunion, the two elves coming together to learn how to fit into each other's lives again. It's gotten better, Lup can feel the strength in their relationship, Taako's absolute trust in her, but maybe she hasn't been paying enough attention to the other people around her in her desperation to reconnect with her brother.

The idea of Alphys just locking herself up alone with her work tugs at Lup's heart. It doesn't sit well with her.]

That just means you gotta get out more. [as if it was ever as simple as that] When this whole assassination attempt thing blows over, we'll go out.

[Locking herself up has been all she's ever done. She was the weird kid, with her books and video games and thick glasses. She was following her father's footsteps into science and theory and he was gone, busy, but it was okay. She didn't know how to make friends. And when it all fell apart, coming here, having a purpose again--

Well, maybe that's just where she belonged, for the good of everyone. In the dark.

Still, her shoulders shake a moment in a bit of a laugh, or some approximation of it.]

There's not much, uhm, o-out to go. I mean, I'm okay here. I have everyone on my phone, and, in shows, and stuff. It's okay.

[Lup leans in, resting her incorporeal, bony fingers against Alphys arm. Even with the growl in her voice, the other woman would no doubt be able to hear the amusement in the lich's tone.]

I said we're going out. That's that. Yeesh, you don't have to fight me all the time, you nerd. I want to hang out with you. I'm not just doin' it to be nice. You're fun, Alphy. I like being around you.

[She lets out a little 'eep', but it devolves into a little giggle in the end.]

Okay, okay, I... i-if you say so. You're just... really cool! So I don't, uhm. Expect it.

[Even if most of her best friends are like, much more outgoing than her.]

Well duh, but glad that's settled.

[Lup's content with letting that drop for now, so the two can just spend a fun rest of the afternoon together, distracting themselves away from murder attempts with more lighthearted things.]

Sooo, wanna show me more of that show of yours since I'm crashin' with you anyway?

[Her eyes just. Sliiiide over to Lup. Like she thought she'd never ask.]

Yes. S-So much. I am literally always down to do this.

[She's already digging around in her bed for her laptop ITS MEW MEW TIME, LUP, YOU DID THIS]
