[Well this... catches her off guard. Why does Frisk want to know about the CORE? But she considers it, texts back as soon as she runs a few figures.]
uhhh maybe if we found something to convert to magical energy or found a way to siphon the mansions but like lmao if we could do that we wouldn't actually NEED the CORE so anyway with the core in hotland its geothermal er the lava. the lava does it so the heat went through it and converted to Magic but about time depends how many people worked on it???? i guess????? i mean i didnt i didnt make the first one so idk exactly asgore might know how long it took
[There's a little sealed envelope left outside Alphys' door. Inside is a small bunch of pictures- various candid (and secret) shots of some of the monsters from the Underground, nice shots where they're enjoying themselves, like at Evelyn's ball or one of the movie showings.
One of them is even of Undyne in her summerween costume, though Max doesn't fully grasp the significance of that one.
A small note accompanies the pictures.]
Thank you so much for your help. I dunno how I'll ever repay you. Have these pictures to start with- my camera works! :) And all you monsters are pretty fun to take pics of.
[She... she doesn't know how to handle this, when she gets it. She smiles flipping through the pictures, feels her throat choke up at Undyne, and has to put everything down to just hold it for a while. Something physical. Something real for someone lost. Maybe that's how Max feels about her camera. The thought just makes her grip harder.
A couple hours later, she sends a text to Max.]
hey!! i got the photos theyre all so good thank you and uhm im glad i could help!!!! honestly i wasnt sure if that had really happened or not 'cause you know wonderland n stuff lmao but thank you really =^w^=
[The writing is graceful and elegant as the man in life had been...would have been, if he had ever existed. It is not immediately evident how it came to appear, sandwiched between blueprints and sheets of notes, but it is clear that it did not exist prior to the moment in which she discovers it.]
[He strolls into her lab casually, knowing she isn't here and knowing she won't catch him. He slips deeper in and finds her workbench, not noticing the golem that stirs in the corner. It eyes him warily but ultimately does nothing, letting the mirror scoop up all of Alphys's blueprints for his body.
He's out as quickly as he came, squirrelling them away on the mirror side where no one but he will have access to them.]
[There's a slight pause before the englishman starts talking. He's not used to answering machines.]
Hello. This is Dorian Gray. Your friend, Frisk, told me you would be able to explain how the entirety of Wonderland can be a small, enclosed space. If you could get back to me soon, I would appreciate it.
[She replies as soon as she's able. What has Frisk been telling this guy?? Though, it does make her feel slightly good that Frisk is referring science questions to her, or thinks she's smart enough to handle them.]
Uhm, well, Wonderland is what's referred to as a pocket dimension. So, uhm, every w-world, or reality that we know... think of it existing as a b-bubble, in a room full of them. They all have the same rules, like, bubbles being popped, but some are bigger, or smaller, and s-some float higher or lower than others. So Wonderland is like... t-the bubble wand. It's different, but still similar?
[Wow, that one got away from her.]
It's, uh, o-outside of space and time. if that helps. Uh, d-did that help? Maybe a more specific question, would, uhm, b-be easier.
[They found a stack of cards written a long time ago. A month ago, they think. There's a post-it note stuck to the top, cheerfully proclaiming - "for Thanksgiving!"
They suppose they should hand them out. There's a...a twinge of something when they look at the topmost one. The one that should go to the bed beside them. The empty bed. Their SOUL starts to...ache.
They swallow. They swallow very, very hard. Screw their eyes shut, blink rapidly. Something's off. Something's different.
They feel...empty. Not empty like they have before.
Worse empty.
They have to make it go away. So they make it go away the only way they can think of. They hand the notes out. Maybe if they do that, it'll go away, and they can feel nothing again. Go back to feeling nothing at all.
So on Thanksgiving Day Alphys will find a card awkwardly slid under her door.
On the outside:]
[And within:]
"Dear Alphys,
You're the first person I told about RESETs who didn't already know. I know you don't always think you're the greatest person, but you're wrong. I know you try your hardest. You're my family. That means I look out for you and protect you, even from yourself! XP
So I forgive you! You say you don't deserve to be forgiven, but you do.
[So, several things have occurred. Chara's cut the conversation off, because that leaves the phone free for things they're actually capable of. Can't speak, but they can type.]
[She doesn't have to know who it was. Even if she figures it out, she won't have to live with knowing, one way or another. Inside the parcel is a a scarf knitted in pale blue, and a matching pair of mittens. The pattern all along the length of the scarf is a line of turquoise spears.
...perhaps that had been too cruel.
But they thought that maybe she'd need a reminder.
[She holds the scarf in her hands, runs her fingers over the spears. And despite herself, she smiles.
She has to find them. Wishes she had seen them delivering the gift. But if anything, this was a renewal of faith. That Frisk still cared enough to think of her.
Now she just needs to think of them. Do something right.
[Whenever Alphys returns to her room (or leaves it, tbh) on the 25th or after, she'll find a poster tube sitting next to her door with a sparkling pink bow wrapped around it.
Upon opening, Alphys will be able to unfurl a giant photoshopped poster of her Mew Mew Kissy Cutie cosplay group from Halloween. The background is edited to look like it's from the anime, along with everything else being color corrected. She will also find a glamour headshot of Mettaton with a note written on the back:
To my favorite anime-loving Monster! Now you can BE the anime, just like you always dreamed! I hope you have a wonderful Christmas!
[She looks at it intently, brings it inside and... honestly, has to cry a little bit before she has the presence of mind to hang it up. Most of the people in this photo aren't even here anymore. Rose, with her pink shapeshifting smile. Lydia, all so excited to go with any of her plans. And Undyne... well. There's little chance she'll ever get to see them here again.
But in the meantime, photos can help. Memories can be kept in physical spaces, if not just mental. And it goes right over her bed on the wall, so she can see it when she comes into the room and lays down to sleep every day.]
[It's not wrapped or anything because let's face it, this is Sans. Even if he hadn't been living in a three or so month long nightmare, he probably still wouldn't have bothered.]
[It's a set of high-quality engineering tools, but they're not just any tools. Every single one has, on the handles or in the metal itself, patterns of anime kittens and other cute animals. The toolbox itself is carnation pink and decorated with Japanese characters and more anime kittens. It's the most adorable anime toolkit anyone ever saw, for the most adorable anime engineer.]
[Attached is a post-it note with the message, be gentle with screwdriver-san, she's shy~ the allen wrench sisters are pretty tsundere, so look out for them. -sans]
[Honestly, she doesn't even care they're not wrapped- if she cared about formalities, she wouldn't be friends with Sans, and also she'd probably wear more shoes.
She spends a lot of time turning it all over in her hands; loving the feel of it, smiling as she finds different patterns or new stickers. She tapes the post-it inside of the lid of the toolbox. Physical reminders of memories. It's everything she needs.]
[ As much as Darcy might've liked to get everything out in time, Wonderland had a weird way of screwing up her plans. So, after a solid day's sleep, she starts making her rounds - dropping off gifts on each floor while using a little red wagon. In front of Alphys's door, she'll find a basket that contains:
There's a note dangling from one of the handles that reads:
Hope Wonderland's attempts at holiday cheer didn't go too poorly for you. Here are a few supplies to help get back into the swing of things. Happy Holidays!
[She smiles at the basket, taking it inside and pretty much immediately making the hot chocolate with the spoon in her new mug. Most of it is going to end up kept in her lab desk, because goodness does she need things to relax with down there, but she's thankful for this. Just reminders that people care, even if Wonderland seems determined to make it not so.
Plus, she could always use more hot chocolate, so it all shakes out.]
[Alphys gets a copy of the first season of Doctor Who (beginning 2005). Yeah it's about time-travel but Alphys doesn't know about Max's connections with that yet, so she feels comfortable giving this as a gift. Hopefully Alphys gets hooked, but Max isn't sure. A small tag reads, "Merry ChristMax!"]
[Honestly, Ford told Alphys she needed to see Doctor Who months and months ago, so this is just a great start on something she's been meaning to do for a while. At the very least, it is now part of her (ever growing) DVD collection, and it sure could use more non-magical girl titles.]
[After taking all that trouble to learn a few new songs, it strikes Frisk that someone else might appreciate the second of the two. There's something about it that reminds them of Undyne and her devotion to Alphys, and they still hold out hope that someday - someday - the two might be together again.
There's not much preamble - just the thump of an instrument against the floor, a few moments of tentative strumming and tuning, and then they begin - ]
Hold me close and hold me fast The magic spell you cast This is la vie en rose When you kiss me heaven sighs And though I close my eyes I see la vie en rose.
When you press me to your heart I'm in a world apart A world where roses bloom And when you speak, angels sing from above Everyday words seem to turn into a love song Give your heart and SOUL to me And life will always be la vie en rose
[The song peters out with considerably less elegance - they didn't know the words that weren't in English, so they didn't attempt to learn them, knowing they wouldn't have managed it without some serious butchering.
The call lapses into a tentative cough, and then a nearly inaudible mumble:]
[He didn't wanna bother her. Not since he figured it was her machine he was fucking with, and his fault that Zacharie got tripped up and overdosed with - with whatever the hell's turning him into what he's turning into. Either way, he needs help.
